Getting Ready For Brady

Out so far in the Gaines family series are Jamie's story (Misbegotten Gaines) and Mattie's story (Vengeful Gaines). Decadent just bought Paul's story (Gaines & Losses), and over Christmas, I had two choices.

I could stop right where I was... with a trilogy of very fun and awesome love stories from the Western Escapes line. Or I could keep going and let Brady have his moment in the sun.

After taking a break for another super-secret project that may or may not have Freewill roots, I'm now starting Brady's story. And boy am I ready for Brady.

Here's my Dirty Birdies post for this week, all about my love for Brady Gaines. And my little sadness at seeing the Gaines family close out their love story run.

It's Finally Here!

The release day for my Western Escapes book with the purty cover is finally here!

Mattie Gaines has so much to be thankful for—three beautiful children who are well on their way to making great love matches, a successful family business that keeps her challenged every day. But a part of her will never forget her first love, and she longs for her own romance du jour.

Wanting a new start, Will Jordan returns to Freewill and wonders whatever happened to that firecracker Mattie Gaines. When he spies her at the first annual Thanksgiving cook-off, old feelings resurface. Will can’t forget Mattie’s kisses from long ago, and he wants to make her remember, too—even if it costs them both more than they bargained.

You can buy it everywhere today. Check out the Decadent Website, where it's cheaper, in addition to Amazon and other retailers! Hope you enjoy!

In honor of the release, I'm going to give away my first Western Escapes book, MISBEGOTTEN GAINES, in addition to a copy of VENGEFUL GAINES to one lucky commenter on this post.

A Little Holiday Cheer

How would you like to win a Nook HD? Well, I hope the way you'd like to win it is by participating in our Holiday Cheer blog hop, hosted by Anna Kathryn Lanier (who also writes Western romance). Because she loves me so much (or probably because I was the first crazy person to sign up), I get to kick off the event! Woohooo!

So here's how it works.

Who needs twenty-five days when you can have thirty-five? Thirty-five different authors you can discover, read their holiday cheer blogs, comment, tweet, and share a little holiday fun. The grand prize (which will be selected from all the comments on AK's blog) is a Nook HD full of books from all of the authors, but most of us are also giving away individual day prizes.

Tomorrow (the 25th), I'm giving away a copy of my newest release, Vengeful Gaines. So stop on by and check us out. Share a little joy, meet some new authors, and have a chance to win cool stuff. What could be better?

Oh, and speaking of my new release, it comes out on Wednesday... the continuation of Misbegotten Gaines, of Freewill, Wyoming. Check it out...

The Barn Raising Releases Today!

Wow, this snuck up on me. For those of you who don't know, The Barn Dance was my first book, so the sequel has had a special place in my heart. If you've read TBD, then you'll be excited to find out that both Mindy and Leo make guest appearances. But the most exciting part is that CAL is back!

In fact, this is Cal's love story.

So without further ado, let me post the cover and the blurb and the buy-links and all that so you can see if this might be a book you'd be interested in buying.

Childhood sweethearts Lori and Cal reunite after years of hurt and disappointment, but it's on less than good terms.

Alora 'Lori' Metcalf doesn't want to reignite anything with Cal Fortiss. When she returns to her hometown to run a barn raising, she doesn't expect to see her old high school boyfriend. Or to still find him so appealing. The intensity that still lingers between them frightens her, and when Cal awakens more than just nostalgia in her heart, she knows it will risk more than just her employment.

Cal has spent twenty years getting over Lori, but even his hard-won cynicism can't keep his desire at bay, especially when he sees her trotting out of his son's coffee shop in a snug business skirt. But Lori isn't interested in rehashing the past, and he's willing to let her have her way.

Can they put old grudges behind them and act on a passion they shared once, years ago, but long buried? Or will they choose to remain haunted by what could have been?

One lucky commenter will win a free set of my Barn books. Both cowboy romances, both with broody alpha males in the lead, both take place in Montana. So leave a comment, win some books. Thanks for stopping by my release party!

New Cover Reveal

I have been waiting to reveal this cover ever since I saw it. It is just SO beautiful. Congratulations to DP cover artist, Scott Carpenter, for an absolutely gorgeous cover, and a perfect representation of the sensuality that Will and Mattie struggle through in Vengeful Gaines.

*sigh* Isn't it beautiful? My favorite season, my favorite colors, and my favorite Gaines character. Mattie is just a firecracker, and her love story has some sad turns. You won't hear a lot about her relationship with her ex in the book--because I wanted to focus on Mattie and Will, but if you stop back during the release week, you'll get to hear more about Mattie and her ex-husband, her children, her past with Will, and what she hopes will be her future.

Vengeful Gaines is the seventh Western Escapes book available from Decadent Publishing, and the second of the Gaines of Freewill books. It's scheduled to release just before Thanksgiving, this year. Check back for more release information soon.

*peeks back* Isn't this a beautiful cover? *sigh* So beautiful. :)

Characters That Grow On Me

I've noticed an interesting trend in my writing lately. My s.o. would say that the biggest strength of my writing is my ability to create characters that feel like real people. Well, apparently, I feel the need to make both the good characters and the good characters real.

I always seem to have one character that I don't like, when I write them. In The Barn Dance, it was Cal. In Misbegotten Gaines, it was Paul. In Airship Seduction, it was Raul (until the last part of the book, anyway). Now, within the next two months, the sequels to these books will either come out or be completed. And who are the heroes of these books? The Barn Dance sequel is called The Barn-Raising and the hero is.... CAL. Yup. Gaines & Losses will hopefully be out from Decadent in the new year. That has Paul for a hero. And I'm almost finished with Raul's story.

What's the most interesting to me is that I've gotten so used to these characters, I forgot what it was first like when I met them. I really didn't like them. I've written about it in several places. In fact, I disliked Raul so much, I initially cut the chapters where he first appeared and tried to write him out of the book. But no. Now, he's the hero. And as I'm writing his book, I'm crying, he loves his heroine so much. And I love him.

But I remember the hate. I don't want to lose that. I like multidimensional characters. So as I start a new project (yes, eek!), I'm trying to find that character that rubs me the wrong way and really dig into them. It'll be an interesting journey, but I'm on it.

What about you? Do you have any characters that make you want to choke them? Or at least smack them? Have you ever hated a character initially and grown to love them?
